I am about to actually use my salt system that was installed with my pool. So far, I have just been using trichlor. Anyway, the pool loses lots of water due to evaporation, and the city water is quite hard. It seems desirable to get rid of excess water hardness prior to starting up the salt system. Draining water is an option, but the city water is probably close to 500 ppm TDS, so with evaporation is will mean a very hard pool soon. Is there any chemical way, short of installing a water softener, that can precipitate out the hardness?
