We currently have an AB pool and are using Baquacil. We aren't really happy with the Baquacil and would like to switch to something else. We are thinking of going to chlorine, but wondered what else is out there and the pros and cons of each. Also, for us cost is a factor as the Baquacil seems a little expensive. Although chlorine does have an odor, do you think it helps keep away mosiquitoes and other pests? We have problems with tree frogs and wondered if maybe the chlorine smell might keep them away. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

As far as a chlorine smell, you should not have one unless you have high combined chlorine(you want below .2ppm), this is very common in Residential pools, usually test strips are just used that don't differentiate between your free available and combined. I know this does not answer your question, but I wanted to point that out. There will be three guys who have much more Residential experience than I who will be all over this topic.
