Congratulations!  I think yours is the first message.  I like it too, but it takes some getting used to.  One thing that is a lot different is the ability to see new messages.  The old system was very nice in this regard.  Upon opening, I could see all of the new messages immediately.  However, in this system, all of the old messages were shown as new and i had to go into each forum and manually mark them as read.  Also, it takes a few clicks to get a list of new messages now.

We would have liked to have kept the same system but that system is now about 10 years old (1996-1997). The system wouldnt run on our new servers correctly and O'rielly wanted $10k plus anual fees to upgrade to there lastest engine. So with the technical & cost issues we we looked for something that would work with our current & future systems and that would be able to maintain the integrity of several years worh of posts etc. This forum has a bunch of new features and if you need help with them or navigating around you can click the help link in the upper right corner next to your login.

I see your post so the system is working.  It must be that no one is posting.  Too bad.  I hope the activity increases.

This reminds me, I used to just keep a bookmark to the old URL (what was it, http://waternetonline.com:8080/~1 ?) and for days I just figured the site was still down.  If it's not too much hassle, it might be worth creating a redirection from that URL to the new forums.

I have enabled the redirection for port 8080 which should handle a good percentage of old bookmarks.  We might be looking to sending out a mass email to cover anyone that might be using missed / unknown bookmarks or some wired cached DNS  issues, but this does bring up the problem on how people love unsolicted emails.......

One thing to consider - When I first went to the new system, all of the messages appeared as unread, hundreds.  Apparently the new system didn't record which of those messages had been read.  The only way I found to fix this is to go into each forum individually and mark all the messages read.  Now that that is done, I can see the new messages.  However, isn't there a way to open the page to see the unread messages right away?  I have to go to forums then click on posts not read.  It would be helpful if this was a single button on the main page.

Probably no need to remind you that I'm old, suffer from 'some-timer's' desease and take a while to figure out computer stuff.  BUT replying to this message is the only way I could figure out how to 'post' a message.  I'd love to see my new mewssages listed when I get ON, and to be able to reply or 'post new message' with 1 click.

Can someone explain which steps are needed for me to - Go straight to 'new messages', Post a ew message.

Let's see if I can help... the first thing you'll no doubt want to do is to mark as read all of the old messages that Jason was good enough to transfer over from the old board.  That could be done by going into each forum and at the bottom, click "More Options" and then the "Mark All Read" button; I think these links will do it for you instead:

Mark 'The Spa Room' as All Read

Mark 'Above Ground Pool Conference' as All Read

Mark 'Inground Pool Party' as All Read

Mark 'The Chemistry Lab' as All Read

Mark 'Salt Water Happenings' as All Read

Mark 'Just For Fun' as All Read

    Mark 'F.A.Q.s' as All Read

Mark 'PROJECT: Refill Waternet' as All Read

Mark 'Trade Talk - Pros Only' as All Read

Once that's done, to see new messages simply click the "Posts you have not read" shortcut at the top-right of the main Forums page.

To post a new message, it takes two clicks: first go into the forum that you want to post in, then click the "Write a New Post" button right below the forum name.

    Good luck!

As far as help there is a help menu in the upper right corner in between the "sign out" & "Inbox"  hyperlinks. Also when you come to the forums on the right hand side you should see what threads (posts) are currently active and /or that you are active in. As Strangel stated the easiest way is to mark all posts as read initially to get you situated. Also under the "more options" you can filter how far back you would like to see threads

I thought the same thing, that the website was down... I am a little slower though, I kept going to the link before I finally typed it in today... I don't know if I am the only one experiencing this, but the sign in and help are almost off of my page, any suggestions

The points are based on how many posts someone has made which we dont have turned on, the "power thingie" is an indicator of what level each person contributes you can hover your mouse over it to get a percentage.
