When I add Chlorine powder to my pool, by the time it hits the bottom, it turns black. After an hour it goes away/ Anyone know why it turns black?

Maybe high mineral content? Do you have well water? Is this the first time you have opened the pool?

No, regular tap water and the pool is always open. I did howerver add 8 pounds of conditioner as it was reading 0, now reads 25. Still not holding free chlorine long enough so I may add another 2 ibs of conditioner. Using Leslie's power powder chlorine and it stays black for about an hour, then goes away.

Have you had the water tested? If so what is the copper content and TDS? When was the last time the water was changed? Something is in the water and is reacting with the chlorine.

The most common cause of a black color in pool water is the presence of iron. If you use Bromine instead of Chlorine that can sometimes produce a brownish color. However, depending on what chemicals you added, you could have caused a chemical reaction that produced this color.
