I visited a pool for friend who just replaced the liner in a customer's pool to find a suspected leak. Within hours of starting the pump the water level had dropped 6" and the liner had floated. The area is an extremely low lying area and water was entering the hopper under the liner before the new liner was installed. The water loss was puzzling we assumed by the fact that the liner floated that the return line was broken and had pumped the water behind the liner. The pool has cinder block walls. Sure enough I checked the returns I found a leak. I drilled a small hole in the deck to check for water and found what I was sure to be the leak location. I opened the deck at that point and boy did I find water. The blocks were full of water and water ran out from where the return went through the wall for thirty minutes. I placed a pump in the hole and could barely keep up with the incoming water. I couldn't find the leak as I could not keep the water low enough to find the break. I feel that the leak is close t

The only way to beat the ground water is to get bigger pumps working to pump out the water. If the area has a lot of ground water there should be an undersuction to remove some of this water.

I did beat it temporarily by taking posthole diggers and digging straight down and placing a pump in the bottom of the hole and running it continuously while I located the broken fitting and replumbing everything I could to relieve pressures on the lines. I still haven't replaced the concrete waiting to check the leaking after re filling the pool to operating levels.

We build a lot of pools near lakes, and we have had to have 4 pumps going on some projects so that we could keep the groundwater out.
