Hi, this is the first year I've had trouble vacuuming the pool after it was opened.

I don't know if this is connected, but the pool is taking about 3-4 mins to prime every morning when I turn it on, and when it does prime, there is a lot of air coming out of my returns for a good minute.

Then, as soon as I attach the hose and start vacuuming, after about 30 secs it loses prime. Once I detach the skimmer plate, it primes again by itself, after about 1 minute.

I have checked the hair pot, backwashed and rinsed, and am at my wits' end. Pool is 9 years old, on-ground, 10 x 17 & holds about 5,000 gallons. Should I have the heater off when I try to vacuum? This was never a problem before. I have also tried putting the Jandy valve on (recommended)main drain off, but then I tried it on 1/2 and 1/2, and it still won't stay primed. I have a ton of debris thatI have swept down by the main drain. No way to grab it with my hands!

    Thank you!

It is a Hayward maxi-flo, self-priming. Never had any trouble with it. Does 1 HP sound right? My pool is under 5000 gallons.

I can get the model # off it. I have every receipt nicely kept inside but that one!

    Thanks again - Linda

I had a drop in pressure and would hear a hissing noise when I changed the flow from main drain to skimmer. I found that the impeller had some debris stuck in some of the vanes. We had a lot of tree debris past couple of weeks. After I cleaned the impeller all was well again. I turned off the motor breaker and used my fingers to clear the impeller.
