    Hello,

What's the best way to clean off these elements??? This is the third year that I've had the filter and I've previously been using a pressure washer to clean the element, but the pressure washer isn't cutting it any more. It seems that I need some type of solvent to loose the debris that is clogging the smaller holes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

TSP works well.. just make sure that you clean the filter well, you don't want it backing into the pool

    Hello Charlie,

Pre soak in a solution of one cup of TSP per gallon of water, only for a few hours, over night is really long enough.

I to use a small low pressure washer at low speed, for clean off.

I expect my filters to last more than 6 years.

Here is the test I use to see if my cartridge is clean.

Close up the filter with out the cartridge and start the system up and let all the air out then note the empty tank pressure, write this on your time clock door.

Then put your cleaned cartridges back in service and note the pressure, if the pressure difference is less than 2 pounds form the empty pressure, you have done a great job.

There are commercial cart. filt. cleaners on the market that have worked for me for years.  As above you soak overnight then hose off.  If you have high water pressure as I do ( 125#) all the better.  My filters always came out nearly as white and clean as new.  For iron stains - I would very briefly dip them in a very mild solution of acid but that was rare.  I don't think the iron stains inhibited the flow.  One word of caution, tho, never do the acid solution first.  That will ensure your filter will permanently be plugged and virtually destroys them as the body oils and suntan lotions solidify.  I have often been asked by colleagues how I got my filters so clean going so far as to smell them.  Big Smile  I used an old S. S. Purex DE filter tank for soaking.
