I'm the CPO of a commercial pool.  Two years ago we finished a complete renovation, and switched to liquid chlorine.  Since then, we have had problems with the polyethylene tubing that the pool contractors installed for the liquid chlorine feed system.  The tubing gets cracks in it, particularly near bends and couplers, and we have had several leaks.  Is there a better type of tubing available that will last longer and is not prone to cracking?  Also, the end of the tube that injects chlorine into the return water pipe gets clogged with chlorine crystals every few months.  How can I prevent that?

    Thanks.

You might try clear surgical tubing of the proper size.  I have relied on what is supplied by the mfgr and distributors.  As with other types of equipment you have to set up a regular cleaning/servicing schedule for this task.  Clean the tubing with a solution of muiatic acid.  You may have to clean the feed tub of brine and crystals every six months.  You can usually see from the outside of the opaque tub that you are getting a buildup of crystals and plan accordingly.  I find that the best way to clean the tubing is to use a plastic squeeze type bottle with a seringe type or needle nose tip that will fit into the tubing.  Target stores or a hair salon may be a source.  A clean feed tub and tubing are the most efficient.  Your local area swimming pool distributor will have the correct tubing.   You should also be able to feel when the tubing is getting stiff or brittle.
