Is there a way to plug the main drain? My old pool is leaking about 1" a day.

Plug could mean the drain was leaking at some point.
Some sump pots have more holes than necessary.

These are possibilities and I would suggest that you locate drain line and test for leaks while the pool is drained.

    Good luck.
