I live in So. California.  I have a new pool and raised spa.  It is plumbed for a salt water generator, but it isn't hooked up yet (waited for plaster to cure).  I read the literature from Goldline about the system and the info warned that I needed to ask a "professional" to determine if I should have the stone around the pool and spa and waterfalls sealed to prevent staining.

I spoke to the builder today about getting the salt chlorination system hooked up and the potential staining issues.  He indicated that the problem with sealing is that you have to do it repeatedly.  He said the salt will probably cause salt staining on the glass tile (unless cleaned at least one a week) and all the natural stone on the raised spa walls and raised bond beam (there is a lot of stone present) will probably have some salt stains as well (efflorescence).  However, he indicated that since I have natural stone I could have the stone bead blasted if it ever got out of hand.   However, I am from back east and I know what salt stains look like on brick and driveways from the winter de-icing. I don't want to deal with salt stains even if it can be bead blasted.

Do you know if salt staining is a problem and whether it can be avoided?  (Sorry to be long winded and I checked previous post to see if this issue had been discussed, but my search didn't help.)
