Hi, just opened my pool.  The filter leaks - at the top.  Has leaked in previous years and been caulked.  This year it has been caulked but is now still leaking in one area - above the regular spot,at the clamp.  My pool people say it's shot and I need a new Hayward one, for $600.

I've had the pool since fall of 1996.  It's a Tagelus Deluxe sand filter, model # 60D/TA60 and has never given me a problem before.  My pool is under 5,000 gallons and gets very little use (unfortunately!).

I don't know what to do.  Any advice is welcome.  Thanks in advance!

Linda, since the filter is 11+ yrs. old and is leaking that is a pretty good indicator to replace it.

What size pump do you have? Make & Model?

Depending on the pump you have (if it wasn't over sized) the pool size could allow for a smaller filter.  However, the pump is the determining factor here also.  If the filter is too small for the pump used then the filter could be damaged by the pump.

    Thanks

    Hi and thanks for replying!

I have a Hayward Max-Flo self-priming pump, Model # (I think - hard to read) C48K2N143.  Installed with pool and filter.  Never had any problems with it.

I see online that filters run anywhere from $250-$350 and I'm guessing installation is another $300?

It really is only leaking in one small area - is it safe to run this way all summer?

    Thanks again, Linda
